A day in the life of a Hummer
Steve and I are advid bird watchers, or at least from our backyard. This winter we have had the opportunity to watch over one lone ranger hummingbird, who for whatever reason didn't make his journey south. So we took extra care and made sure he had sugar water through out the winter.
Now I know that most hummingbirds look the same, but this particular fellow is a little more "plump" than the rest of the hummers that arrived to our feeders a couple of weeks ago.
So, I am kind of thinking this is the feller who stayed throughout the winter. The most interesting thing about this particular bird, is that for a hummer he is lazy. He just sits and watches. He doesn't fly around at quick speeds from one end of the yard to the other, nor is he timid and shy (I hope he doesn't become our neighbor's cat's next meal). He just sits and sits and sits. It is hard to say this, but for a hummingbird he is kind of lazy. Nonetheless, he sat long enough for me to take his photo (not a great picture, but trying to take a picture of a small bird in the midst of trees, from inside the house, is not an easy task).
Anyways, since I had nothing else interesting going on in my life right now to blog about, I thought I'd tell you about this little bird.

The Camera's Eye
Every once in a while my camera and I don't see eye to eye, and when that happens, I get some unusual shots. Here are two shots that I found really cool and unique.
The first one is called "The Ghost of Levi Past". Steve and Levi were playing ball together and when they play ball, Levi's concentration level soars high and he moves super quick; thus the picture.

This next shot was purely accidental. I was on my way home one night and I was trying to take a picture of the dense fog, but this is what I got instead. Can you guess what it is? I'll check back in a bit and share the answer.
I've always enjoyed taking pictures, I just wish I was a little better at it. Occasionally though, I'll get a shot or two, like these, that I really wasn't expecting.
The answer: Is it a lighting bolt? No, is it a street light? Yes. The fog was heavy and moving quickly under the street post. I took the shot and then in the midst of the shot, my camera battery died. Pretty awesome, huh? Thanks for guessing, that was fun.

The Other Family
Let me introduce you to my nephew Tony and niece Shanya. They belong to Steve's side of the family. I have only met them a few times in their short lives and I'll have to tell you they are fun to be around.
Tony is involved in Speech at his school. This does not surprise me at all since his mother loves English and his father loves acting (or acting out, I could say). Shayna will be a teen next year and has a love for reading and is still finding out where her passions lie.
Tony and Shayna have a great sense of humor, can shoot straight with you and are smart. Both of these young adults are not shy, nor are they afraid of holding a conversaton with you; which I appreciate immensely.
This photo was taken on the ferry ride from Clinton to Mulkiteo the morning they were heading back home. We were able to spend a few short days with Dave and his family and Steve's Uncle Bob (I've put up a short slideshow of the family).
I hope that we will be able to get together with the family in the future. Time doesn't stop for anyone and these young people will be out of the house and on their own in no time.

I'll Have A New Life
After 74 years of life, Steve's mom went on home to be with the Lord Friday night. She had been battling many health issues for a long time. I guess it was about twenty years ago when Steve introduced her to this song and all she could do was cry and praise the Lord. Well now she has a new life. God is so good!
The Cathedral Quartet sings this song, "I'll Have A New Body, Praise the Lord, I'll have A New Life" (along with other groups of course), but if you'd like to hear it you can go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koSoPHWMLIA
This song is for you mom. We love you!
