March 2012 Overview

Wow! Where did the month of March go? It seems like just a few days ago when I turned the calendar over from February. Well, I am glad to report another month full of blessings.

Blessing #1: I was given a few days off of work and I must say it definitely helped me physically. Over the last several weeks I was experience numbness from my forehead to the middle of my head. I guess there is a lot to say about a little R&R!

Blessing #2: I got sick, but now I am well. Thank you Lord!

Blessing #3: My secret prayer sister was a blessing to me and my family. Thank you for the treats Katie!

Blessing #4: A lady donated her baby grand piano to our church! It is a beautiful piano and one the church body is thankful for. An answer to pray indeed!

Blessing #5: We got to experience the Island County Convention. It was organized very well, even though it was a long, drawn out day. Steve was voted in as a delegate to go to the Washington State Convention on June 1st.

Blessing #6: I got to sing a special with Tess, who graciously agreed to partner with me since Steve came down ill. Thank you Tess!

Blessing #7: Steve and I were invited over to the McDowell's, with the Schenck's, for a BBQ dinner and fellowship. Believe it or not, I tried Elk for the first time and I liked it (way better than any deer meat I have ever had)! Kami also served chocolate pie and Matt Jr's out of this world cheesecake - both were so very yummy. The evening concluded in a couple rounds of "Shoot". I am glad to report that the girls took a round and the boys took a round - so all was good in the end.

Blessing #8: Pastor is doing a series in the book of the Revelation and the messages so far have been enlightening and very exciting. Heaven sounds like a wonderful place and our pea brain can't even begin to fully imagine its beauty and God's glory!

Blessing #9: I have a LOVING husband who puts up with all of my quirks, and an AWESOME God who loves me, despite me.

Blessing #10: I have the greatest dog EVER!

Thank you Lord for all of the blessings you have bestowed upon my family and me this month. More than we deserve.

Island County Convention

A couple of weeks ago we had the Island County Caucus. Folks who were interested in becoming a delegate or an alternate delegate for the Island County Convention were voted on by the members of their precinct. Steve and I were elected delegates by our precinct to represent them at the Island County Convention.

The Island County Convention took place this past Saturday, March 24th. The convention ran from 9am - 9pm as 23 delegates and 23 alternate delegates were elected to go to the Washington State Convention. Not only did we have to elect delegates, but the participants also had to vote on the platform they wanted sent and heard at state.

Although the day was somewhat laborious, Steve was one of the 23 delegates chosen to represent Island County at the state level. Not only was Steve elected, but three of our other friends were also elected to go: Jim, Tim and Levi (San Juan County).

I am really excited for them as they get to experience the next level in the political process of choosing our next Republican Presidential Candidate. I can't wait to hear all about. Congratulations you guys!

All Went Well with the Dogsitting

I can report that Chip and Luke were safely returned (and in one piece) to their owners last week. The house had been full of doggie activity for a little over two weeks and it was sad to see them go; as they really were very active and desired much attention from us human folk. It made for lively evenings.

Steve loved to play tug of war with the dogs and Levi became quiet the cheerleader; of course, on the sideline, as he never wanted to get to close to the action.

Chipper loved to lay in Levi's favorite spots, which at some point I think began to stress Levi out a bit, but Levi was a real trooper through the whole thing. He is quiet an extraordinary dog, who for the most part, was very laid back.

Overall, Levi let Chip sleep in his favorite spots, let his mama hold him, let Luke play with his mama, eat his food, and swipe his toys. BUT, the line was definitely drawn when it came to sharing his treat. ABSOLUTELY, NO SHARING was ALLOWED! They had to get their own treat.

I would have to say that Chip and Luke's extended stay caused Levi to become more social with his kind. Levi has had such limited interaction with other canine that sometimes he has no idea how to really interact with them. I think overall, it was a good learning experience for him and his new canine friends. Good job Levi, you made your mama proud.

A Family of 9

Tuesday evening we had the McDowell family over for a meal and fellowship. We had such a wonderful time getting to know this family and look forward to spending more time with them in the future.

I especially enjoyed cooking for a larger group of folks; since it is usually just Steve and I. We had salad, fresh bread, jumbo shells and baked spaghetti for dinner and key lime and blackberry pie for dessert.

We played Scrammble afterwards and then had time to sit and fellowship with one another as the children played downstairs.

The dogs did well too with so much activity about. All in all it was a fantastic evening.

Dog Sitting Begins...

Well it is official. This past Monday, Steve and I became the temporary parents of Luke and Chipper Majors. We now have in custody one yipper dog and one large dog, along with our very own Levi.

Tuesday afternoon, while I was waiting for my bread to rise I took a moment to sit down and rest. It must have been the thing to do.

Ahhh... nothing better than an afternoon "dog"nap.

Newest Addition

I don't know where my mind goes at times. One minute I think about something I want to share and then the next I completely forget. At any rate, the picture above is the newest addition to Levi's stuffed animal collection. It came from my secret prayer sister (SPS) in a beautiful spring tin and with chocolates (way to go SPS)! My SPS was very thoughtful as she not only thought about me, but my husband (who got all the dark chocolate) and my little Levi, too! Thank you so much for the special gift.

Below is a picture of his new found toy. As you can see Levi took a liking to his friend right away and chewed off one of its ears. Steve and I name all of Levi's stuffed animals, but naming this one has been a little more difficult. Any suggestions?

Island County Republican Caucus

Two years ago I experienced my first caucus and today was my second time. The attendance, level of participation and the spirit of the voters was well received. Steve was given the opportunity to stand up for a minute and pitch his candidate. He was a little nervous, but did a super fine job! (YOU GO HONEY!!)

Steve and I, along with our Precinct Caucus Officer (who automatically gets to go to the next level) were voted in as delegates by the eight members that showed up from the Swantown district. We are so excited to be able to represent our precinct at the county level. We met some very nice people today and I loved the fact that we all got along with each other, even though we did not necessarily agree on which Republican candidate to vote for. It is interesting to note that we almost had a 3-way tie at our table: 3 voted for Paul, 3 voted for Romney and 2 voted for Santorum.

Not only were we voted in as delegates but also a few of our other friends were voted in to represent their precincts. So far, I know that Vicki, Tess and Jim will be representing their precincts. I am also waiting to find out if Carolyn, Levi and a few others might have been chosen to represent their precinct as well.

As I understand it, the Island County Caucus meets March 24 and that is were we cast our votes for Swantown, and then pick a delegate to represent our precinct at state.

This has been quite a learning process for me. Two years ago, I went to my first caucus and I didn't understand the process at all. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even let my precinct consider me as a delegate. But this year, I did and I am looking forward to seeing what the next level is like.
